This section takes a closer look at the pronunciation of finals based around the vowel e. They are e, ei, en, eng and er. These finals can all appear as syllables on their own. They also appear in combination with most initials except for j,q,x.

N.B. w is not proper initial. It is considered the initial part of the final -uei and -uen but are written as wei, wen and weng. u is called a medial that precede the central vowel e.
