Here is the final version of the Buddha. Now he no longer looks human like but takes on a more spiritual abstract look. The eyes are downcast with swelling lips and the face itself is in the shape of an oval. The hair is now wound tightly in what are called snail-shell curls.
There is no reference here to skeletal or muscular structure. The body appears inflated by breath alone. The seated position is that of yogi.. The proportions of the body are based on a unit called a thalam, equivalent to the distance between the top of the forehead and the chin. The body makes a triangle. The downcast eyes shut off the visible world. The sculpture was meant to be contemplated and viewed metaphorically.
