Photo Story Examples

There are many simple ways to put together pictures and text to tell an instructional story.  These stories can feature children, include humor and cover the most mundane topics. They can be fun, engaging and include pictures of oneself.  For this DIY Tech Project, you'll practice making a photo story. Please download the detailed directions on the course site (Week 8).

The assignment is designed to give you the opportunity to:
a) experience designing a photo story for or with your student(s)
b) consider how you can integrate this strategy in your classroom
c) reflect on how photo stories can support objectives for your student(s)

Here are five sample photo stories made by former students.

The following two photo stories show how students used photos and text to tell a short story.  Note how the students took interesting/meaningful photos and combined it with text to tell a short and focused tale.
  • Photo Story Sample #1: The World's Greatest Yummiest Omelet

  • Photo Story Sample #2: Going to School: A Day in Luke's Life

  • Photo Story Sample #3:  Nohno's Story
(This photo story was made by a teacher from Chuuk who wanted to retell a story told to her by her grandmother.  She wrote in her Forum Post that "Part of the reason, I chose this story was it was a story that was always told me as a child, but it was also one that has some lesson to it, especially on respect. These are some stories I can use in my classroom (maybe polish it up a little) to illustrate a point especially since all my students are islanders.")

The following photo stories use photos, text and music.
  • Photo Story Sample # 4: Attack in a Box
  • Photo Story Sample # 5: Hiking the Judd Trail
  • Photo Story Sample #6: Where is Brother Horace?

Thank you to Luke, Jodi, Eric, Emily, Joanna, and Josh who were willing to share their projects.
