3.2 Reading

How do you get started writing your observation essay? Frequently, the most trouble students have is getting started. The first way around this is by reading some sample observation essays and sharing ideas about them with your group members. That will give you a clearer idea of what your observation essay should be like and make it easier for you to get started writing your own essay.

The essays I would like you to read are in Reading Critically, Writing Well. They are "Soup" p. 71-74 (this is a rereading) and "The Last Stop" p. 104-109."

While you are reading these essays, think about what they essays are teaching you about observation.

DISCUSSION FORUM ASSIGNMENT: After you finish reading, write a 250-word reaction (minimum) about your reading experience that focuses on the following questions: What did both of these essays teach you about observation? Were the essays good examples? Which did you think was the best example? Why? Which essay did you like the best? Why?  Use quotations from the essays to back up your thoughts. Compose this as a discussion forum message (write "Observation: Reading Reaction" in the subject line) and post it to the Module 3: Observation discussion forum.
Please consult the calendar for the due date.

Next, read several classmates’ postings and respond to them. Please respond to those postings with fewer than two responses. Please consult the calendar for the due date for this portion of the assignment.

This entire assignment is worth 20 points.

Now, you're ready for 3.3: Getting started.
