NSL2014 Parachute
This Wiki page will show the needed details for the recovery system for the NSL 2014 Project
Construction details
3 parachutes are needed, the table below will show the sizes needed.

Other details:
- The shroud line length is measured from the end of the parachute to the central connection point
- The length to use is an added 12 inches to the shroud line, this will allow for some of the shroud line to be an anchor point on the parachute's fabric and extra length for tying the lines together at the central connection point
- Parachutes are round in cross-section
- use a circle based on the diameter
- fit a hexagon within that circle
- The shroud lines will attach at the points of the hexagon.
- Hemispherical in shape when deployed
- Using French Fell Seams for the seams of the parachute
- Part of an email message from Edward Jeffries:
- I’ve attached a PDF with the suggested seam type. Sometimes in the sewing industry its referred to as a double lap seam or flat felled seam, sometimes a French seam, although most French seam diagrams I’ve seen show one row of stitching going through 2 or 3 layers of the fabric, and the other row going through all 4 layers; you really want both rows of stitches to go through all 4 layers.

- Each parachute is going to made of 6 panels. A finished panel will have a side length of the radius specified, with an angle of 60 degrees between the two side radius.
- The arc length is the distance between the two radius length as a curved line.
- How much material is needed for the seam areas is up to the Fashion Technology Department
- Shroud lines will be a loop, attached to where 2 panels meet. Can use up to 6 inches of shroud line to attach the line to the parachute fabric
- Optional: If you want to have an inner circle of between 6 to 12 inches diameter to attach the points that would be okay

The main and payload parachute was finished on March 20, 2014 and tested on the walk way behind Honolulu Community College Building 27 (Cosmetology and Fashion Technology Building)
