Expectation of Students
I am pleased you are a member of this class and want you to succeed. Success is based in part on understanding and meeting the following expectations.
General Expectations
This syllabus is required reading; you are expected to read the entire document and linked sites prior to or in the first week of class.
- As a student in this course, you are a part of a community of learners. One responsibility as a member of this community is to communicate with other members through our discussion board. You are an important part of my class and you have ideas, experiences, and knowledge that can enrich our online classroom. We need to 'hear' your voice and 'see' you in the classroom through comments, questions, and responses to the discussion topics.
- Practice good netiquette.
- Read and adhere to all grading and assignment policies.
- Review and follow the Student Conduct Code, which spells out appropriate behavior for students at this institution. Printed copies of the Student Conduct Code are available at the Office of the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, 'Ilima 205.
- If you have a disability and have not voluntarily disclosed the nature of your disability and support that you need, you are invited to contact the Disability Support Services Office, 734-9552, 'Ilima 107 for assistance.
eMail Practices
In this class, we will use the Laulima Discussion and Private Messages tool (this link will only work if you are officially enrolled). Private messages in Laulima are linked to the hawaii.edu addresses; both are valid methods of communication for this class.
When sending email to me at maryh@hawaii.edu, put ED 276 in the subject line to ensure a prompt response. In accordance with the University's email policy (see sidebar on right side of this page), I will NOT use students' private, non-UH email addresses, e.g., gmail, hotmail, Yahoo!, etc., as an official or primary means of communication.
